What does the area offer?
In the summer of 2015 we visited the Limousin for the first time. At this time we chose the area because it was not too far to drive from the UK, but far enough south to get good summer weather. There are lakes (with beaches and fishing), hills, forests, lots of green space and associated activities, not over-run with tourists! There are markets and chateaux to visit too.
We spent a delightful holiday and fell in love with our surroundings. If you want a true "get away from it all" holiday, this area of France certainly offers that.
Brocants are held throughout the summer all over France, there are usually at least a couple on every weekend that are within an easy drive from us.
Puy De Dome Pearl of the Chaîne des Puys in central France, this volcano is a huge playground which is in the process of being awarded World Heritage Status by UNESCO.
The top can be reached all year round via an electric rack railway which takes about 20 minutes. The more intrepid adventurer can hike to the top in about 45 minutes.
The Wolves of Guéret give you the opportunity to get up close to one of the last inhabitants of Europe to be nearly eradicated from the local environment.

Les Pierres Jaumâtres are incredible granite megaliths located atop Mount Barlot (591 m) near the village of Toulx-Sainte-Croix. They were inscribed on the register of protected natural sites in 1927. Each stone has a special charm and could be considered a sculpture, changing shape with the angle of view.

Aubusson is world famous for its tapestries. If you feel like splashing out on a beautiful work of art, this is the place for you. Plenty of lovely restaurants and shops to visit as well as the museum
The biggest lake in Limousin, the Vassivière lake is situated in the north of the Regional Nature Park of Millevaches in Limousin. This lake benefits from an unspoiled natural environment. Basking on one of its sandy beaches or enjoying water sports activities in a wonderful wooded setting is a real delight!
Sioule-Loisirs is a multi-activity base in the heart of the Sioule Gorges. Offering rental of canoes kayaks and electric mountain bikes and a restaurant. Great day out for the whole family who fancy a spot of adventure.
